The Society was organized August 24, 2001, as a not-for-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Tennessee.
The purpose of the organization is to promote the appreciation of Scottish history, heritage and culture in the Chattanooga area.
Groups supported by the Society are the Chattanooga Scottish Country Dancers and the City of Chattanooga Pipe Band. Russ Spaulding leads the Pipe Band. The Scottish Country Dancers are directed by William Latimore. The Society also promotes the appreciation of Celtic Music through the broadcast of Celtic Harvest on WUTC-FM radio. The show is hosted by Rabbit Zielke.
Events sponsored by the Society include CultureFest (September 2001), our 1st Annual Burns Night Dinner (January 2002), and the National Tartan Day Celebration (April 2002), as well as an annual picnic. Other activities will be added as the membership increases.
The dancers and pipe band members participate in a variety of programs and competitions throughout the Southeast. There are quite a number of Scottish festivals and games within a few hours' drive of Chattanooga which are attended by many of our members. In addition to the calendar of events available on this web site, one will be published in our newsletter.
Membership is open to anyone, regardless of ethnic origin. All we ask is for a love of Scotland, its people, its music and its history.
